NM 467 Railroad Overpass Project Boosts Mobility 

The Railroad Overpass Project was designed to provide a safe, reliable way to cross the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks at NM 467 during normal and emergency conditions.  Project improvements included construction of a two-lane bridge/overpass to cross three tracks.  The overpass was designed with two 12' wide driving lanes, 8' wide shoulders and a 5' walkway on each side along with standard overpass and safety features.  Grades implemented for the overpass were about 5-1/2% to meet field conditions and a 2.5:1 embankment side slopes.  The bridge spans 80' to clear three tracks that also allow 25' on each side of the tracks for maintenance.

From project start to finish, understanding and responding to customer needs was priority, and included coordination and consultation with federal, state and local agencies and individuals throughout the area.

The quality journey began with public information meetings followed by question and answer sessions to review plans and provide comments.  Project scoping letters were sent to agency representatives, property owners, elected officials, emergency and protective services and the Clovis school district.  NMDOT erected display boards throughout the community that summarized major aspects of the project, its limits, purpose, need, impacts, detour routes and methods to provide comments.

With public input from start to finish, today, the traveling public enjoys cruising above the trains that once brought their commute to a screeching halt.
